John A. McDougall, M.D. received his degree in medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He received his postgraduate training from the University of Hawaii Medical Residency Program and is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. McDougall has been in the private practice of medicine for over 25 years and is the founder and Medical Director of the McDougall Program located in Santa Rosa, California.

His work in the field of medicine is focused on the prevention and treatment of disease through the use of proper diet and lifestyle. He has helped shape current trends by his important research and leadership. He has published much research on the beneficial effects of diet on victims of breast cancer. He writes a monthly column for Vegetarian Times and is a frequent lecturer and talk-show guest. He has a nationally syndicated television show as well as a weekly radio show.

Dr. McDougall has authored many books and articles, to include, The McDougall Plan, McDougall's Medicine: A Challenging Second Opinion, The McDougall Program, The McDougall Program for a Healthy Heart, as well as The McDougall Cookbooks.
